Director – Education, Microsoft Asia Pacific
Don Carlson leads Microsoft’s Education business across APAC and is responsible for implementing the company’s vision to empower students and educators to achieve more. Don and his team work closely with academic institutions, governments, partners and educators to enable the education transformation across this diverse region. He manages a team of committed individuals dedicated to implementing key programs and strategies which are aligned with the key education initiatives of Asian countries.
Carlson has worked in the field of education and training for over 25 years, working in a variety of roles within the technology industry. He worked for Microsoft between the years 2000 to 2008 and has recently rejoined the company in September, 2015. Don’s previous roles with Microsoft include responsibilities for managing Education businesses in Australia, Central and Eastern Europe and Western Europe.
Before rejoining Microsoft, Carlson spent the past 5 ½ years with Autodesk in various roles including managing the global engagement team with focus on implementing the company’s Design Thinking strategy to governments, schools and Universities.
Carlson has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in education from the University of Alberta and University of Sydney respectively.
A global citizen, Carlson was born in Canada, migrated to Australia 23 years ago, lived in Munich for 10 years before recently relocating to Singapore. He has a wife and three daughters aged 16, 19 and 21. In what little free time he has, Carlson continues to run, and enjoys playing basketball and golf.
